The Highland Division Memorial stands on the cliffs to the east of St Valery on the north coast of France. It commemorates what many describe as Churchill's sacrifice of the Highland Division. A week after the last British troops had been evacuated from Dunkirk, the 51st (Highland) Division was forced to surrender to Rommel's 7th Panzer Division at St Valery en Caux.

The special kit has just over 55,000 stitches - but the amount of stitching can be reduced by almost half if you stitch it on blue marble aida, so avoiding having to stitch the sky.

The design size is 12.1" x 23.4" (31cm x 59 cm) on 14 count fabric, 10.6" x 20.5" (29cm x 52cm) on 16 count. and 9.4" x 18.2" (24cm x 46cm) on 18 count.

Several purchasers of this kit have opted for marble blue aida. With this fabric, there is no need to stitch the sky, so reducing the number of stitches by almost half. However we still supply the full set of threads so the sky can be stitched in later if you choose.

Another possibility would be to only work the top part of the pattern - say everything above "United we Conquer".

In addition, the large version is available with a blank background (no leaves) which may be stitched on Ivy Green aida. This reduces the number of stitches to be worked to just 16194 and reduces the number of colours to 67.
